Harding's Clocks and Music Boxes is an outlet for unique clocks and gifts. There are also numerous antique shops in the greater Lynchburg area.
ATV Trails: Rattlesnake and Terrapin Trails - 25 miles of trails off the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Biking: James River Heritage Trail crosses the James River on an old historic railroad bridge. Blackwater Creek Trail passes through the heart of Lynchburg. Blue Ridge Parkway, one of the nation's most scenic drives is located within 30 minutes of the Fox's Den.
Bird watching: Blue Ridge Parkway - Special Fall Hawk Migration in September, also the James River State Park, Amherst County Parks, and sitting on deck of the Fox's Den provide great opportunities for bird watching.
Canoe and Kayak: James River: from leisurely floats to white water. Amherst County has three small scenic lakes for your enjoyment.

Civil War: Appomattox Court House National Park, site of the signing of the surrender papers that ended the Civil War. Lynchburg Confederate Cemetery, Confederate soldiers from many states lie buried here.
Festivals: James River Bateau Festival: June - river bateaus leave Lynchburg and travel to Richmond.
Virginia Ten Miler: September - for the physically fit runners.
Lynchburg Art Festival: September - terrific display of Virginia artists' works.
Lynchburg Day in the Park: September - great family festival.
Garlic Festival: October - a favorite for wine and garlic lovers.
Monacan Indian Nation Pow-Wow: May - presented by the local Monacan Indians.
Festival by the James: May/June - providing many carnival rides and shows.
Amherst County Apple Harvest Festival - October - held at the Amherst High School.
Fishing: James River - Smallmouth Bass, Muskies, Crappie, Catfish, Rock Bass.

Golf Courses: Colonial Hills, Ivy Hill and London Downs.
Hiking: available for all abilities on the Appalachian Trail, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Recommendations and directions are available. Crab Tree Falls is the highest falls on the East Coast and is beautiful year round. James River Heritage Trails is a flat stretch along the James River near downtown Lynchburg. James River Foot Bridge Trail, part of the Appalachian Trail system, is near the foot of the James River gorge. Short hikes on the Fox Hollow property provide great exercise and nice views!
Historical: Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest, Mr. Jefferson's personal retreat is located just outside of Lynchburg; Point of Honor in Lynchburg, Red Hill - Patrick Henry's National Memorial; and Old City Cemetery provide an interestingday trip. Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's estate in located 50 miles in Charlottesville. World War II D-Day Memorial, is located just outside of Bedford. Downtown Lexington provides many attractions that include the Stonewall Jackson House, Washington & Lee University, Virginia Military Institute, Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery, & Wade's Mill.
Horseback Riding: guided trail rides provided by Fox Hollow Stables, must have own horse.
Virginia Horse Center: A 600 acre Horse Center located in Lexington provides beathtaking views and pristine grounds with exellent barns that can accommodate over 700 horses, with a first-class coliseum with seating for over 4000 people, picuresque arenas, a spectacular cross-country course, and the scenic trails are enjoyed by spectators and exhibitors from around the world. Events are scheduled every weekend from mid-January through mid-December with some activities during the week. A great place for competition, education and recreation.
Scenic Drives: Blue Ridge Parkway - offers unsurpassed scenic views. Country roads in Amherst are a wonderful way to relax and view a quiet way of life.
Theater: Line Kiln in Lexington provides professional works of theater that celebrate the history and culture orf the southern mountains. The sate is set in a once active lime kiln. Bring a picnic! Open Tuesday-Saturday. Concert series are featured on Sunday's.
Museums: Amherst County Historical Museum - provides the history of the neighbors of Fox Hollow. The Monacan Indian Museum is located on the same road as Fox Hollow. Virginia Legacy Museum of African American History located in Lynchburg as well s the Lynchburg Museum and Amazement Square ( a hands on museum for children and adults) provide an intersting outing. Maier Museum at Randolph-Macon Women's College. The Natural Bridge Wax Museum and Toy Museum at Natural Bridge provide interesting displays. Lexington provides a host of museums that include the Lee Chapel and Museum, Virginia Military Institute Museum, George C. Marshal Museum, Military Memorabilia Museum and the Haunted Monster Museum.

Orchards: Morris Orchard of Amherst - located a short distance from Fox Hollow. Several others located in nearby Nelson and Albemarle Counties.
Vineyards: Rebec Vineyard - small family run winery in Amherst, home of the Garlic Festival. Stonewall Vineyard in Concord, and numerous others in Nelson and Albemarle Counties.
